Milan on road to success

One of the North East’s fasted growing companies, The Specials Laboratory has appointed an ambitious young recruit from Poland as Assistant Production Technician as it continues to expand its highly skilled workforce in Prudhoe.

Lifelong Newcastle United fan, Milan Heller, 28, moved to the UK two years ago after spending 11 years commuting to the region to watch his beloved team. After completing five years in higher education studying in Katowice, he moved to Gateshead to start his working life in the North East and joined The Specials Laboratory in August.

Milan is the tenth Assistant Production Technician to join the rapidly growing firm since January and is reaping the benefits of the company’s ongoing commitment to staff development and training.

Milan commented: “I joined The Specials Laboratory with no specific pharmaceutical experience and I’ve been given the opportunity to develop a career in this highly innovative industry. The training programme here is exceptional and the quality standards which we must meet are of course very high. The ethos at Specials is fantastic and it’s great to be part of such a highly motivated and passionate team.”

In his new role, Milan works closely with a team of Production Technicians and is responsible for ensuring the correct medicinal ingredients are supplied to make up specific patient formulas. Meticulous attention to detail and high levels of concentration are essential for those seeking a career in the specials industry. Training is delivered to test three levels of competency, ensuring the highest standards of quality control are maintained, including how to handle medicines, hygiene and dosage.

Lorraine Adams, Production Manager at The Specials Laboratory explains: “The nature of our work is highly specialised and it’s essential that we recruit people who have the skills and abilities to work in such a focussed and technical environment. We’re wholly committed to staff development and have taken on a number of Assistant Production Technicians this year, giving them the guidance and support needed to reach the required standards.

“Milan has already shown great potential and I have every confidence that he will go on to excel and enjoy a long and prosperous career at The Specials Lab.”

The Specials Laboratory facility in Northumberland has benefited from an investment of more than £5 million in state of the art clean room technology and, along with its sister company Specials Clinical Manufacturing, the business employs more than 150 people. An experienced team of pharmacists and technicians create bespoke treatments for a huge range of illnesses and have access to a wide range of unique dosage delivery systems.
